UNDP

UNDP is the UN's global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges.

Set up in 1987, the Gender in Development Programme (GIDP) advises, supports and facilitates UNDP gender equality policy, dialogue and practice, and promotes the empowerment of women. The unit, located within the Bureau for Development Policy (BDP) at headquarters, provides guidance on gender policy and programmes, advancing gender as a crosscutting theme in poverty, sustainable livelihoods, environment and governance programmes. It also furthers the BPD mandate to support innovation through pilot country initiatives on gender mainstreaming.

UNDP

Moving from Policy to Practice: A Gender Mainstreaming Strategy for UNDP Indi The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and its predecessor organisations have been actively involved in supporting the national development priorities of India for the last five decades. Historically, UNDP has supported India in strengthening its national institutions and in the dissemination of advanced know-how in diverse areas. The directions for the new Country Programme (2003-2007) have emerged from rigorous assessment of the outcomes of on-going programmes and consultations with diverse actors, in close collaboration with the Government. The new Programme will cover four thematic areas: (a) the promotion of human development and gender equality; (b) capacity building for decentralization; (c) poverty eradication and sustainable livelihoods; and (d) vulnerability reduction and environmental sustainability.
